Explorations in 3D Printing with Wood

First, I modeled the warped hexagon shape in Fusion360 as shown below, incorporating a false bottom which slides on a discrete dovetail joint.


After creating some renders, I printed the design in Colorfabb's woodfill filament.

Next, I deliberately abraded the surface with a rotary tool, trying my best to emulate wood grain. It added a necessary effect by breaking up and smoothing out the layer lines. Then I went over that with 220 grit sandpaper

Afterwards, I applied some honey colored wood stain:

Next, I applied 2 coats of polyurethane, sanding with 1000 grit in between.
